Welcome to the The Second Fund

The only cash assistance fund for single parent led-households in the Denver metro area

In today’s economy single parents face extraordinary economic burdens.

In Denver metro alone 32% of children live in single parent-led households.

When a single parent experiences a lay off, wants to consider going back to school, or provide a summer with some recreation to their children they are often without ‘a second fund’ to simply survive or thrive. That is why we exist. We provide one time cash assistance of $55-555 to families that can connect their stability to a one time cost.

Single Parents Deserve Stability

Single Parents Deserve Stability

Nationally, nearly 80% of single-parent families are headed by single mothers, according to The Gathering Place. Thousands of Coloradan children and single parents are navigating financial insecurity while carrying the responsibility of raising a family on a single income, or potentially - no income at all.

Many families have one income but no backup plan available. When a car repair, utility bill, school expense, medication, or other unexpected cost arises, there is often no second income, savings account, or emergency fund to absorb the shock. The Second Fund exists to become that backup resource.

Want to create a policy priority report with us?

The Second Fund is surveying single-parent households across the Denver metro area to identify the policy and program changes that would make the biggest difference in our lives. Our goal is to collect 100 responses and use the findings to advocate for stronger policies at the Colorado Capitol and with the Colorado Department of Health & Human Services.

The survey is anonymous unless you choose to be listed as a co-author of the final report (you decide on the survey). Participants will be entered into a drawing for one of four $25 Visa gift cards. Your voice will help shape the policies and advocacy priorities that support single-parent families.

Who We Are

The Second Fund is a Colorado-based initiative dedicated to improving the economic stability of single-parent families. We provide direct cash assistance, elevate the lived experiences of single parents through research, and advocate for policies that reduce poverty and expand opportunity. We believe families deserve dignity, trust, and the resources they need to build a stable future—not just survive, but thrive. Our fiscal sponsor for this initiative is Elephant Circle. Founded by a single mom herself who has worked in both programs for single parents in Denver metro and has contributed to 100 pieces of legislation that support working class people.
